BUILDING HISTORY

This building was constructed in the 1890's by James Polk Johnson, who was a nephew of
Lyndon B. Johnson’s grandfather, Sam Ealy Johnson, Sr.

and Sam's brother, Tom Johnson.

James Polk Johnson named the hotel "The Pearl" after his daughter
who is shown in the photo on the right, back row, center.

James Polk Johnson was the founder of Johnson City in 1879, and also built the gin/mill
and the building that is the present day JC Bank across the street.
Mr. Johnson was a "jack-of-all-trades" person. he was a drover, rancher, and a businessman.

This historic structure served as a Hotel for many years, and for a period beginning in 1929 was called the Adams Hotel.

Charlene Holden Crump, current owner, recalls:
"As a child I would go by the old Pearl Hotel when I would go to the Square,
and I really thought the Pearl was grand".
